A Viral Ad: Volkswagen Polo - Small but tough

Viral ads have become extremely popular in the past few years. This VW-Polo advertisement is a very good example.

I'll leave you with two questions though:
- what is a viral ad?
- is this a genuine Volkswagen advertisement?

A "viral ad" is a marketing technique that firms use in order to spread their advertisements trough the Internet by Internet users. I found here a deeper information regarding to this Polo viral ad: http://www.snopes.com/photos/advertisements/vwpolo.asp

Hi!
Genuine? No, I don't think so, it's too politically incorrect to show on the television. Making jokes involving terrorist is not yet allowed.
Funny though!

Hi Anna! Thank you for your wonderful contribution. Your definition of viral ad is just perfect.

About this ad being genuine or not, you're right in that it is too politically incorrect and accordingly Volkswagen denies having anything to do with it. But still, who would give away the huge sum of money needed to produce this ad just for fun? Your link provides some interesting points concerning this question.

As a matter of fact, this viral ad has spread like a virus. We might as well ask ourselves 'quid prodest'(who benefits from it)?

Hi Marc! Welcome to the viral ad posting and thank you for your sharp comment.

Sorry I hadn't realised the contribution was yours. You hit the target: this ad is too incorrect to be shown on TV, but does this apply to the web?
