Are women too aggressive?

Language is mainly a means of communication between human beings. As living in partnership - or 'family' of whatever type - is our basic cell of social organization, people spend a lot of time thinking, talking and debating about relationships. To have a good command of a language like English you need to be familiar with the language of human relationships and the expression of feelings.

Here's a controversial article on the changing nature of female/male roles and expectations: "Are Women Too Aggressive?". The article deals with American society. Do its assumptions hold true for your own society?

Some interesting quotes:
"more than 40 percent of both men and women say they spend at least two hours every day thinking about their current or potential relationships. (Scary fact: About 10 percent of us spend more than six hours every day doing so, according to a national Harris Interactive poll.)"
"...women have become increasingly financially independent, increasingly sexually liberated, and increasingly determined not to let their biological clocks dictate their relationship status."
"...few things are as attractive to a man as a woman who's unafraid to pursue the guy she's interested in."

I would say that my society works different. I have just read the book "Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus" by John Gray and I do not agree with some author's assumptions either.

If I can recall, Gray's book focuses on communication differences between sexes. From my own experience I'd say that male-female roles are very marked in American society (more than in British society), even though things are slowly changing, and there is a huge diversity in the country itself. Maybe you dislike such broad stereotypes as the book seems to perpetuate. Anyway it would be interesting to hear what specific differences you find between both societies.

HELLO! JUST A COMMENT, IN MY OPINION, MEN THINK MORE ABOUT SEX THAN ABOUT FEELINGS OR RELATIONSHIPS.
READING THIS ARTICLE I CAN UNDERSTAND WHAT MEN ARE DEMANDING:
A RELATIONSHIP FREE OF COMMITMENTS, WITHOUT PRESSURE AND OF COURSE, FULL OF SEXUAL AGGRESSIVENESS, WOW THAT´S THE PARADISE!!!
HAVE A NICE DAY!!!

Good Morning! yesterday I forgot answer your question about the article and in general I agree with the writer, what is more, I can find easily this kind of behaviour on my own society. But why men always seem to be the victim of women? Maybe because the writer is a man...
Have a good weekend!

Hi Maria! Yours is a very valuable contribution. But don't you think that there are many men who care about relationships and feelings as well? Nice weekend to you too!

No doubt the article is written from a man's point of view. It'd be interesting to know if other men in the audience agree with you. Hi guys, is that your idea of paradise: no commitments, no pressure and sexually aggressive women?

Yes, I do. God thanks, there are some men who care about feelings and relationships and some women who don´t annoy their partners with future plans, weddings, having babies or bad habits.
See you!
