Time for Idioms

One of the most difficult aspects of a new language is learning to use and understand idioms and metaphors. As advanced students, you should have a good command of English idioms and sayings.

It's very difficult to remember all of them. I think the best way is to solve the exercises, to print them and try to read them as many times as needed until they are familiar to you.
Good luck

Yes, Susana, you're quite right, it's difficult - almost impossible - to remember all of them at once, or overnight. In my opinion, the best thing is to learn idioms as you do vocabulary. On the one hand you should select idioms which are useful to you and then use them actively in speaking and writing. Try to remember them in context, that is, in a meaningful sentence or in a situation. On the other hand you should try to increase your passive vocabulary by being able at least to recognize idioms. Learning idioms from different sources and keeping your own list (your own file) will also help. Good luck!
